Giving Back To The Community

At Portland Luggage we believe in a responsibility to give back to the community. We have a long-standing tradition in being involved with various charities and foundations. Gregg Simon and Wendy Liebreich, the owners of Portland Luggage, have established their own programs as well as joining the efforts of those in the local area. Some of these programs include:

  • The Pack That Gives Back program
  • The Make-A-Wish Foundation
  • The Oxford House
  • The Portland Festival Symphony
  • The Suitcases For Kids program
  • Distributing backpacks to children from low-income families
  • Donating musical instrument to local schools
  • Donating luggage to Portland women's shelters

Going Green: As part of our commitment to the local community and the planet, Portland Luggage strives to be a 'Green' company, implementing and supporting renewable and responsible energies such as wind power and solar power. Our recycling program insures that absolutely everything that can be recycled at Portland Luggage is recycled or re-used, therefore keeping tons of items from the landfills every year and creating a better planet. Carrying items such as vegan wallets, we do our part to cut down on the greenhouse gasses caused by livestock. We also carry Tony Perotti products which are tanned with an eco-friendly vegetable-based process to reduce environmental impact.

"I believe that my life belongs to the whole community and it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can."
Gregg Simon - owner of Portland Luggage

The Suitcases for Kids program is a joint effort between the Portland Metropolitan Rotary Club with Children's Services and Portland Luggage to provide travel ware for foster children moving from one family home to another. Many foster youngsters have no adequate suitcase, duffle bag, backpack or other means to transport clothing and basic personal items when being moved from one foster family home to another. Many are left in a demeaning position of stuffing and packing personal items --many with close family attachment--into garbage bags, grocery bags, cardboard boxes or other ill-equipped containers. This is embarrassing to youths trying to find their way into a new living environment.

"We found that many foster youngsters are faced with packing their clothing and personal belongings into cardboard boxes, grocery bags, even plastic garbage bags"
-- Portland Metro Rotary Secretary Douglas Porter
Portland Luggage is collecting suitcases and other luggage for foster children to use to move their personal effects as they are transferred from one home to another. The luggage will be cleaned and repair by Portland Luggage's own Luggage Doctors. As incentive for customers to bring in their suitable luggage for donation, both Portland Luggage locations will offer customers up to 20% off purchases for customers who donate a suitable travel ware item (suitcase, duffel bag, backpack). Usable or repairable items will be refurbished and distributed on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

have something nice to put her clothes in for her trip to Disneyland.

Chuck and Morgan from Portland Luggage pose with some of the many
suitcases that will go to a local women's shelter. These bags will provide
the women with something to pack in so that they may leave their current
situation and hopefully find a better one.
